About this guide

Word of mouth marketing can be the most powerful marketing strategy if used the right way. In this guide we will look at various ways you can promote your tuition business through word of mouth without spending a cent. You can get started with one strategy and over time try new strategies to find which work best for you and bring you the most new students.

About word of mouth marketing

Every time somebody talks about you and your guitar tuition, that’s word of mouth in action. If for example one of your students mentions to somebody else that you teach guitar and you’re good at it, the other person is going to keep that in mind if they or somebody else wants to learn guitar. The key point is that you still need to be a very good teacher. Otherwise instead of your student telling others how good you are, they will tell everybody why they shouldn’t go with you.

So before we look at any marketing strategy, you must realize that you still need to be very good at what you do or none of the strategies will achieve good results. By following the Teaching Guides and using the Lesson Materials effectively, you can avoid being labeled as a bad tutor.

New lesson material: Lydian mode

A new lesson plan is available on the Lydian mode. This is an interesting mode for your student to learn because of the exotic sound it creates. If your student wants to learn how to play like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai, this lesson plan will help them achieve the sound.

Access the lesson here: SCA-07 Lydian Mode

The rest of the lessons on modes will be available shortly and you can access the previous modes in the Lesson Materials Section here.

SCA-07 Lydian Mode

About this lesson

Lydian is an interesting mode to learn as it's the only one that alters the fourth. It's used a lot by guitarists such as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, so if your student wants to learn that style of playing, this mode is a great one to focus on. Just like the other lessons on modes, this one included a detailed guide to help you teach it effectively.

SCA-06 Phrygian Mode

About this lesson

Phrygian is the third of seven modes. It's recommended you teach the modes in order as it will make more sense to your student. After your student understands Ionian and Dorian (see related lessons) you can move on to Phrygian. This is a very exotic sounding mode and students will love it when they can improvise using it. Phrygian is used a lot in Flamenco so any students wanting to get a Spanish sound in their playing can learn this.

TTQ-04 Keeping Children Interested During Lessons

Children can be pretty difficult to teach guitar so this guide will give you three basic ideas to keep in mind to help you keep children interested and motivated during lessons. Apply these tips properly and your job will become a lot easier when teaching children.

What happens when things go wrong

One of the worst experiences you can suffer through as a guitar teacher is a child student who doesn't practice, doesn't pay attention and gets bored within the first five minutes of the lesson. The truth is most of the times when this happens it isn't the child's fault. With a slight modification to how you teach, you can easily change this habit. Even the best guitar teachers can fall for this trap and if you have ever experienced one of those students before you will know the frustrating feeling it creates. This guide will help you prevent it from happening.
