Using Guitar Handouts with your students
One of the problems with teaching out of any guitar method book is that it doesn't provide flexibility for you as a guitar teacher. What do you do if all of a sudden you decide to teach something different and it isn't covered in the book?
Guitar handouts are a crucial form of guitar teaching resources.

The above image shows two examples of guitar handouts you could give to your students.
The handout on the left covers basic information on the Phrygian Mode and the one of the right covers Drop-D Tuning. The idea behind these handouts is that they cover all basic information the student will need. So if your student needs to change to Drop-D Tuning they can simply turn to this handout and see how to change to the tuning and the new positions of the notes on the fretboard. If your student wants to improvise using Phryigan, they can use the diagram for a quick starting point.
When compared to guitar lesson plans, these handouts contain less information. It's important you spend more time teaching using guitar lesson plans and to provide guitar handouts whenever relevant.
Guitar Handouts vs Guitar Method Books
Guitar handouts give you more flexibility as a teacher because you can select only the most relevant materials to give to your student. If you teach groups, instead of needing to purchase a book for each student, you simply print enough handouts for each student.
Guitar Handouts show your students that you're the expert
Teaching out of a book restricts how you teach as you will have to use the exercises as given and most books contain detailed explanations. These guitar handouts are light on information on purpose - they allow you to provide your student the quality insights that only a guitar teacher can give. When your student sees that you're merely going page by page out of a book they will start to question why they need you at all! On the other hand, using guitar handouts like these show the student that they need you and your expertise.
Live and Teach Guitar Members have access to all the guitar handouts they will need and plenty of other types of resources.
