About this lesson

This lesson continues on from MET-05 and allows the student to focus on a few different riff techniques used in metal. Your student will be able to focus on each technique then learn how to create their own metal riffs using the same ideas. The Teacher's Guide will explain how you can use this material in the lesson and provides advice on points to touch on.

If your student is interested in learning metal then this is a great way to introduce them to the techniques used and it will prepare them for learning actual songs.

PRO-06 Dimebag Darrell

About this lesson plan

This lesson focuses on a how Dimebag Darrell would use chromatic notes, repeating patterns and the diminished fifth interval in his lead playing. The examples focus on runs to give the student a few different angles on the same approach. By the end of the lesson the student will understand how to create their own similar licks suitable for metal soloing. The examples can be challenging and are meant to be played at a high tempo so would only be suitable for intermediate to advanced students.

The Teacher's Guide will explain each lick and give you a blueprint you can use for your lesson.

MET-05 Metal Riff Exercises 1

About this lesson plan

This lesson will give your student useful exercises to prepare them for typical metal riffs using palm muting. The exercises are designed to develop the student's rhythm and coordination between both hands. These exercises work best when practiced with a metronome. Build up the tempo gradually to ensure the student remains in control of their playing.
